Tell me a little bit about yourself and your role at Vision

I am 18 years old and started Vision as an apprentice and have now worked for Vision for 11 months. Since being here, I’ve gained a range of skills and knowledge in performing various tasks such as processing orders, allocating stock, making any amendments/cancellations to orders, retrieving POD’s and processing samples.

I also have the responsibility of keeping up to date with the order book.

What made you want to join Vision as an apprentice?

I had heard positive comments about the company beforehand and I knew of other apprentices who had been employed by Vision and enjoyed working there.

Describe your usual routine at Vision. What are your everyday tasks?

I always start my day by allocating stock to send down to the warehouse to pick, pack and despatch.

I carry out any amendments or cancellations and keep on top of the order book updating it every day which includes tasks like moving out orders, checking credit limits, checking to see if payment for orders have come through and ensuring no orders are stuck due to system errors. I also process orders for customers.

What do you enjoy about being at Vision?

Vision has a positive, friendly atmosphere within the office. I enjoy the fact that I’m always busy with different tasks and learning new things.

What have you learnt since being at Vision?

I’ve learn thing such as how to use bespoke company software, accurately input information to process sales orders, to use multiple systems as I have sole responsibility to allocate stock, how to communicate with customers through reception experience which helped to develop confidence in speaking to customers daily and answering any queries they may have.

How do you think apprenticeships help those looking for a career?

It allows you to have new experiences and develop key skills that can benefit you for future career roles. It prepares you in advance as apprenticeships give you an advantage in the sense that you gain more knowledge and have hands-on experience compared to others

Would you recommend an apprenticeship for someone who is undecided? If so, why?

Yes, because apprenticeships help you learn and gain experience as you go. Not only do you have a steady employment where you’re earning money but you can work towards your future career role and work your way up.

It helps you to understand through being in a real-life working environment whether this is the career path you would like to take.
