Angie Silver Silverspoon London

With merely a few weeks to go until the Vision Style Awards come to an end for another year, things are really hotting up as we search for the most stylish European hotels, restaurants, bars and spas.

Due to popular demand, we also reintroduced our hugely popular healthcare category for the second time ever earlier in the month as we reward the increasingly stylish offerings from care homes and retirement accommodation providers.

No strange to the lap of luxury, we’ve been catching up with Angie Silver; the woman behind Silverspoon London – a luxury travel and lifestyle blog following Angie’s adventures around London, and indeed, the world.

Always on the lookout for the latest new restaurant or exciting destination, Angie’s blog focuses on exploring her home city of London, mainly through her love of food and discovering the hidden hotels, restaurants and unique experiences the world over.

So, what trends is she expecting to uncover this year in hospitality design?

What made you decide to be a judge this year?

I was very kindly asked. I travel around the world through my blog staying in beautiful hotels and eating in outstanding restaurants but have never been an awards judge before so thought I’d put my knowledge to use in this exciting opportunity.

What are we seeing in terms of innovation in hospitality design trends that you haven’t seen before?

I’ve seen a lot of dispensing with formality in recent months – providing a somewhat cosier look. It seems to be all about hygge at the moment and this is something that’s cropping up in hotels, especially.

What do you think will be some of the key design trends across hospitality over the next 12 months?

Natural fibres are definitely on the up!

Is there anything that’s becoming less stylish and sought after?

I think that the garish, opulent looks we’ve been used to seeing are going out of fashion now. We’re seeing much more simplicity and a warm, cosy look.

What do you think will set an entry apart from the rest this year?

I’ll be looking for attention to detail and that personal touch.

In a highly competitive market, how do you think the design of a venue can influence a guest to visit?

I think establishments need to provide a sense of place and be true to their destination, wherever that may be.

What do you personally look at first when stepping inside a hospitality venue?

I like a place to look ‘put together’. I love both a modern and traditional aesthetic look as it looks chic and not shabby.
